Adenosine-5'-diphosphoric acid (ADP)

Adenosine diphosphate, abbreviated ADP, is a nucleoside diphosphate. It is an ester of pyrophosphoric acid with the nucleosideadenosine. ADP consists of the pyrophosphate group, the pentose sugar ribose, and the nucleobase adenine. ADP is the product of ATP dephosphorylation by ATPases. ADP is converted back to ATP by ATP synthases. ATP is an important energy transfer molecule in cells.

Adenosine 5′-diphosphate (5′-ADP or ADP) was used as a test compound for studying the endothelium-dependent vascular response in salt sensitive (DS) and salt resistant Dahl rats (DR).[3] The product was used to study the different P2-purinergic receptor subtypes on canine vascular smooth muscle and endothelium.

Adenosine 5′-diphosphate induces human platelet aggregation and non-competitively blocks the stimulated human platelet adenylate cyclase.
